A quick visit to family brought us to an interesting town ~ Eureka Springs Arkansas. We can't say we had any idea how historical, quirky, and fun this little, not-too-far from the Missouri/Arkansas border, town could be. We walked the winding and hilly streets, admiring both the historical Victorian architecture and the seemingly homemade, Central American vibe of some of the buildings. Up to code? Eh...let's get a drink. Eureka Springs got its start in the mid-1800s as settlers spread stories of a great healing spring with medicinal powers in the area. The town quickly became a spa and tourist destination. The town continues to be touristy, but in a groovy way. Shops, art studios, restaurants, bars, biker bars, hotels, and lots of stuff to see close by, make this place worth the stop. In the next few posts we'll be exploring the area, including a crazy awesome chapel in the woods, #bigJesus, and a grand historic hotel on the hill. In the meantime, keep Eureka Springs weird folks!

It's my quirky little town, too. I think I speak for most of the artists, musicians, and business owners here when I say we really enjoy reading fun articles like this one! It's a little haven of awesomeness in the midst of the vanilla Midwest. (I feel I can safely call it the vanilla Midwest because I was born and raised in SW MO, and lived there 36 years).

It was nice of you to publish our little town. I'm not happy about your "up to code" comment. Bad for business.
