ETC at the 2012 Lake Union Boats Afloat Show - Seattle

Everyone's Travel Club was lucky enough again this year to check out Seattle's 2012 Boats Afloat Show on Lake Union. The weather was gorgeous, and like last year we picked a handful of boats to photograph to give you a taste of the action. Enjoy!

Sundance 47' WaterLoft

Yep, that's an outboard motor on your veranda. Although it probably doesn't get the best gas milage out of our selections this year, the WaterLoft 47' is a house after all...err, I mean, a house-boat. Made in Portland and ready for lake living, the rooftop entertainment area doubles as a helipad. For real.

Hanse 470e (2010)

What's better than being able to afford a new Hanse 470e? Selling it to buy a larger Hanse! Apparently that's what the owner of this boat did. A practically new boat on the market!

O.A.R. Northwest

These guys blow our minds. Oh, I don't know, maybe it was the record breaking row from New York, across the Atlantic, to England. Or maybe the circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. Or my favorite - in December of this year they'll depart Africa and row to Miami USA. An over 3000 nautical mile paddle. All of a sudden, paddling around Mercer Island doesn't seem like such a big deal any more:)

Ranger Tugs R-29

Although we're partial to sailboats here at the club, we can't help but like the Ranger Tugs. The inside layouts are comfortable and well-made, the outside setup is perfect (especially for the length), and when the boats are setup at shows like this they usually have a kayak or SUP on the top - nice touch.

Hatteras 60

Another motor-yacht we had to give a shout out to is the Hatteras 60. A great looking yacht inside and out, the Hatteras hails all the way from North Carolina...and North Carolina knows power-boating...and weird tuna-fish consistency style BBQ.

2013 Tayana 46 PH

We were excited to check out this new Tayana at the show. We'd seen her at our marina, even without her rigging or bottom paint...ahhh, that new boat smell. Turns out we like the Tayana 48 much more. This one does have a pilot house - great for long passages especially here in the NW, but somehow still feels a little cramped inside. And seriously, those blue cushions have got to go - 1975 was a really long time ago. Tayanaworld.com

P.S. We don't advise buying a boat based on seat cushions, but for over a half a million dollars...uh, maybe everything should be perfect:)

82' Ocean Alexander

I was just telling my wife the other day that we should think about upgrading from our modest production sailboat to something with a little more, well, space..."I really like this 1982 Ocean Alexander," I said. "What's that honey?"
"Holy crap. It's 82 feet long...and a 2013."
Turns out, this was the World Debut of this vessel. I've been on a few motoryacht's in the 7 million dollar range, but none as nice as this. The top floor is like an indoor/outdoor livingroom-kitchen-bar-ipad. The woodwork below decks is gorgeous (check out that steering wheel), the galley is nicer than kitchens in most homes, and the cabins are spacious and cozy. "What's that honey?" "Speed?" "Uh, how does 28 knots sound?"

Beneteau Oceanis 45

I really like Beneteaus. I doubt I'd ever splurge on a 45 footer but the Oceanis is pretty sweet. To me, wide open on deck and below with a modern feel is what Beneteaus are all about. This one achieves that easy with a little added bonus on the bow - a compartment for sail storage - thank you! Big boats mean big sails, finally somewhere to put them.
