Well, we took off from Kingsley (the ETC mothership) aboard our double inflatable kayak, paddling towards the West Point Lighthouse (we always go there!). Then, all of a sudden, we noticed a black fin in the distance... Was it a whale? It swam closer... Then it got this close...OK, not really, I just zoomed in with the camera. It turns out it was a California sea lion 'sailing'. This involves a sea lion swimming, usually with one flipper up in the air, in an effort to regulate body temperature. The real name for this is thermoregulation. People usually mistake this and think the sea lion needs help but it is totally normal folks, relax and let them do their thing!

Everyone's Travel bids farewell to summer with an evening sunset kayak in Shilshole Bay, Seattle WA, USA. We hope to execute some great Fall/Winter paddles in the coming months but the longer days are definitely behind us...the winds are up for an action packed Fall sailboat racing season...here's a few pics from racing in the backyard.
~Paul ETC Just a quick paddle and a quick post! I just noticed on my drive to Shilshole today that the forest fire in Olympic National Park is making some serious smoke in the sunset, I'll try to get some shots tonight.
~Paul ETC Sometimes I take a quick paddle off of Kingsley around the Shilshole Marina breakwater. It only takes about 30-45 minutes and it's hard to miss my skeletal and serpent neighbors. We posted on them once before, check it!
