OK, so this blue heron might not be a dinosaur...but it walks like them and there is a pretty strong case for an evolutionary link...
These guys always seem to be lurking around the corner when I walk to the showers, especially late at night or early in the morning when I am barely awake. Let's just say they are not that worried about humans. They're quiet, taller than a kindergartner, sometimes bearded, amazing. They're probably from around the corner at the Locks...and they're probably watching me type this right now. ~Paul ETC Dinosaurs!

Sorry to open with such a green picture...but this is what we're dealing with on deck. I mean, the lines (they call them ropes on land) aren't in horrible shape and if I had tons of money I might just have them all replaced, but I don't.
I am replacing some of them - the ones that carry heavier loads like the outhaul (it pulls the mainsail out of the mast towards the back of the boat). The only bad part is that lines are expensive and if you want them to put the nice little fisheye loop in the end it takes time (it's on my list of things I need to learn how to do). So I scrub...and scrub. I pressure wash, I soak, I try almost everything while trying not to rough up the lines too much. Some of them come out looking pretty good (see pics below). Then, just as I was starting to get the line scrubbing blues, I found a bunch of used line out next to the marina dumpster - some of it looking better than what I have now - jackpot! ~Paul ETC Hey, no one told us owning a boat would cost so much...Lately we've been cleaning and trying to spruce up Kingsley overall. The mainsail is in the shop, we've started replacing some of the lines (land people call them ropes:), we've been scrubbing all of the green off the deck, shining the metal, and on and on. Second Wave in Fremont is a great place to shop for used stuff. Whether you're a sailor or not it's a great place to browse, if only to see all of the cool stuff (some of it you'll have to guess what it is). We didn't buy anything there but I'm sure we will eventually! ~Paul & Amber ETC *****UPDATE***** Sadly, Second Wave shut its doors for good. We miss you already! Why aren't there more aquatic thrift shops around? |
